Job Summary
Train Operator position responsible for safe, efficient locomotive, yard, and train operations including coupling/uncoupling, inspecting trains, switching in yards, and maintaining train records. Operates locomotive and cars across multiple rails and locations, complying with FRA regulations, signaling, and safety procedures. Responsibilities include handling train orders, waybills, communications with management and customers, and training other operators. Requires ability to read signals, respond quickly to indicators, and perform physical tasks in varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Must pass safety examinations, background checks, medical and drug testing, and obtain required engineer/conductor certifications. Strong emphasis on safety, documentation, and teamwork within a union environment.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma/GED
- 18 years of age or older
- Valid Driver's License
- Preferred: Certified Conductor and/or Locomotive Engineer
- 3 or more years experience on a railroad
- Experience working on-call basis and/or varying shift schedules
