Job Summary
Operate locomotives and manage on-ground duties, including track switches, coupling cars, and yard maneuvers to build and align freight trains. Execute equipment maintenance and assist in all phases of safe daily train operations while adhering to FRA, OSHA, and DOT safety standards. Perform multi-tasking operations involving pulling, controlling, and maneuvering equipment onto and off of railcars, with increasing responsibilities toward full locomotive engineering. Work in outside environments with frequent weather exposure, requiring mobility to travel short lines and occasional lifting of 80 lbs. Complete random alcohol and drug testing per Federal Railroad Administration Guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Mechanically inclined
- Basic reading and math skills
- Ability to develop teamwork and work with all levels of personnel
- Mobility to participate in frequent travel along the assigned short line and within the region
- Ability to pull, control, and maneuver onto and off of equipment
- Ability to lift at least 80lbs
- Ability to walk long distances over uneven surfaces
- Ability to handle locomotive engineering duties
- Must be available for random alcohol and drug testing
- Must be able to comply with FRA and OSHA safety requirements
- Must be able to comply with DOT requirements
- Must be able to operate track switches, couple cars, and work on freight trains in yard operations
- Must be able to move and align various parts of rail equipment
- Must be able to perform several tasks safely
- Must be able to operate equipment according to company policies, procedures and practices
- Must be able to perform essential job functions in primarily outside environments
- Must be able to wear appropriate PPE
- Must be able to cooperate with pre-employment criminal background checks
- Must be able to cooperate with substance abuse testing which includes a urine drug test
