Job Summary
Trailer Mechanic at J.B. Hunt Transport responsible for performing complex maintenance, service, and repair of trailers, containers, chassis, and related equipment. Responsibilities include troubleshooting and diagnosing trailer issues, completing work orders to meet company specifications, maintaining and repairing air brake systems, performing FHWA/DOT inspections, participating in OE technician training, onboarding/mentoring trainees, coordinating shift tasks as a team lead, and communicating professionally with customers and internal staff. Requires experience in trailer maintenance, ability to work outdoors, willingness to work various shifts, and proficiency with tools and basic computer software; preferred qualifications include EPA 608 refrigeration certification, welding skills (MIG/stick), ABS knowledge, and strong prioritization and teamwork abilities. This is a full-time role with relocation possibilities and no sponsorship for employment-based visas.
Required Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age with 3 or more years of experience in semi-trailer maintenance and repair or equivalent combination of education and experience, or military equivalent
- At least 1 year of experience in DOT inspections, FHWA inspections, and air brakes
- Ability to supply tools or purchase through toolbox program
- Willingness to work outdoors and across multiple shifts
- High School Diploma or GED with 3+ years experience (preferred)
- EPA 608 certification and Refrigeration License (preferred)
- Advanced welding skills (MIG and stick) (preferred)
- ABS knowledge (preferred)
- Proficiency with MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) (preferred)
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to wear PPE
