Traffic/Transportation Engineer

Job Summary
Prepare Traffic Access and Traffic Impact Studies in accordance with local and state standards. Design and draft 2D and 3D traffic plans, develop signal and signage plans, and create Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) and traffic control phasing plans. Analyze transportation systems, perform signal optimization, and coordinate with project teams, clients, and municipalities. Participate in field reviews, data collection, and site visits as needed while applying applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This on-site role in Gahanna, Ohio, supports a growing civil engineering firm in Columbus, offering opportunities to work alongside experienced professionals on diverse transportation projects while pursuing professional licensure.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
- Understanding of traffic engineering and transportation planning principles.
- Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Desired Qualifications
- EIT with the ability and desire to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Experience using GIS and mapping technologies.
- Experience with traffic analysis and modeling software such as: HCS, Synchro, SIDRA, VISSIM.
- Related transportation analysis software.
- Experience preparing traffic impact or access studies.
- Experience with traffic signal design, signing and pavement markings, or MOT plans.
- Knowledge of local and state transportation design standards.
- Prior consulting engineering experience is preferred.
