Job Summary
Report for duty at assigned school crossing posts and remain until the area is clear of children. Ensure all children utilize proper marked crossing locations and confirm vehicles have stopped before directing them across the roadway. Gather vehicle information for any traffic violations and forward reports to the Marblehead Police Department dispatch center without confronting motorists. Maintain the green reflective vest and hand-held stop sign provided by the department.
Required Qualifications
- Pass a thorough background check
- Pass a physical examination administered by an occupational health clinic
- Attend the annual traffic supervisor meeting before the start of the school year
- Be familiar with the location of the crossing post, traffic pattern, school start and release times, and general characteristics of the location
- Ensure that all children utilize the proper marked crossing locations
- Ensure that no children are in the streets when traffic is moving
- Confirm that all vehicles have come to a complete stop before directing children across the roadway
- Use the pedestrian walk light if present at their location
- Ensure it is safe to step out while clearly raising the hand-held stop sign
- Gather vehicle information and forward it to the Marblehead Police Department dispatch center in the event of a traffic violation
- Use the provided green, reflective traffic vest
