Job Summary
Schedule, assign, and direct drivers to transport steel and coordinate deliveries in compliance with DOT regulations. Communicate with sales and customers to determine driver needs, enter assignment data, and monitor daily driver inspections to address critical safety and maintenance issues. Manage daily routing and route compliance for pickups and deliveries while ensuring drivers complete all assigned routes. Monitor E-LOGS and DVIRs to maintain DOT compliance, negotiate rates with outside carriers, and build contacts with contract carriers. Physically inspect equipment daily to prevent DOT violations and work with the fleet coordinator on maintenance. Know United States shipping lanes and legal requirements for flatbed trucks.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum 2-4 years of prior fleet dispatch experience
- Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a distribution center
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
- Highly organized individual with a commitment to consistent attention to detail
- Flexibility and adaptability to assume additional responsibilities and accommodate customer requests
- Ability to work independently, often under pressure/situations within a team environment
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment to perform a variety of tasks
- Ability to build business relationships and collaborate effectively
- Must be able to interact with all levels of management
- Must be flexible and willing to work 'off schedule' on occasion
- Must know the United States shipping lanes and legal requirements for Flatbed trucks
Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with industrial services or distribution operations
- Proficiency in Spanish language
- Experience in flatbed operations and load securement
- Experience with Roadnet software or other dispatching software
- Knowledge of StelPlan
