Job Summary
Traffic Staff Engineer at INDOT Greenfield District responsible for Construction Traffic Liaison and IHCP exception requests with MOT review to ensure safe closures, detours, and queueing mitigation for the motoring public and road workers. Serves as a floater traffic engineer assisting the district traffic team with operations, investigations, and planning tasks to improve traffic safety and mobility. Requires broad knowledge of highway/transportation design, traffic control standards, federal/state regulations, CAD, GIS, and data analysis; knowledge of SPMS, dTIMS, ArcGIS, and WMS. A degree is not required, but 4+ years of professional experience in engineering-related fields is considered. Optional bridge-specialty training may apply. Supervisory may be involved for one or more staff.
Required Qualifications
- Professional Engineer license in Indiana required; exceptions may be considered for candidates holding an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification who are actively pursuing PE licensure in Indiana, provided they are applying for a lower-level classification.
- valid Driver's License
- 4+ years of professional experience in engineering, civil engineering, transportation research, or a closely related field; applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role
- extensive knowledge of AASHTO, ASTM standards, IDM/IMUTCD, and Indiana design and transportation manuals
