Traffic Staff Engineer

Job Summary
Develop creative, effective traffic solutions for diverse roadway and multi-modal projects while engaging in client management and relationship-building. Represent the firm through presentations at industry events and conferences, and contribute to impactful transportation projects within the Carolinas Traffic Team. Prepare traffic engineering design plans, traffic management plans, and temporary traffic control plans for state DOT and municipal clients. Leverage expertise in traffic signal design, ITS design, signing and pavement marking, or traffic operations analysis and simulation. This role supports a growing practice embedded in the southeast transportation group, offering hybrid work options in Raleigh or Charlotte.
Required Qualifications
- BS degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- Minimum 3 years of experience in traffic engineering
- Experience preparing traffic engineering design plans for a state DOT or municipality
Desired Qualifications
- Preferred to have Professional Engineer license, with ability to obtain NC PE within 3 months
- Project or Task Management experience
- Knowledge of state and municipal policies, standards, specifications, and guidelines
- Additional experience in one or more of the following traffic engineering subdisciplines: Preparing traffic management plans and temporary traffic control plans
- Traffic signal design, closed-loop signal system design, and ITS design
- Experience preparing signing and pavement marking plans
- Traffic analyses using software such as Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, VISSIM, SIDRA
- ITS and Lighting design for major roadway projects
- Excellent communication, presentation, writing and organizational skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Experience using MicroStation, ORD, or Civil3D
