Job Summary

Traffic Signal Technician for INDOT Fort Wayne District installs, maintains, programs and repairs traffic control devices (signals, pedestrian signals, vehicle detection systems), conducts preventive maintenance on signal cabinets, and responds to emergency call-outs including Winter Operations. Requires ability to work long hours, work at heights up to 70 ft, and be on-call. Training is provided for INDOT District Signal Technician Certification; CDL eligibility/completion is supported with on-site training. The role emphasizes hands-on electrical/field work, diagnostics with test equipment (ohmmeter, voltmeter, ammeter, phase rotation indicators), installation and adjustment of signal heads, and collaboration with contractors. Travel to various state-maintained installations and the ability to work in inclement weather are required.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or High School Equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience in transportation or electrical/traffic signal maintenance
  • Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain within 90 days
  • CDL endorsements as required by district
  • Knowledge of traffic signal components and Indiana Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
  • International Municipal Signal Association Level 2 Certification
  • INDOT Signal Technician Certification
