Job Summary
Manage personnel in the Traffic Department by monitoring performance, coaching, counseling, or disciplining as needed, while conducting performance appraisals. Negotiate freight rates, discount programs, and carrier agreements to control costs and maximize customer satisfaction. Develop and maintain a transportation plan, update routing guides for inbound and outbound freight, and establish preferred lanes. Create and analyze monthly freight reporting, assist in establishing transportation budgets, and manage departmental budgets and headcount. Lead continuous process improvement and training for the Traffic Team. Work with the Claims Department and carriers to reduce freight claims, establish relationships with freight consultants, and travel 1-2 times monthly to develop partnerships. Utilize SAP, IBS-AS400, and MS Office to interpret technical procedures and calculate financial metrics.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university
- five years of related experience and/or training
- equivalent combination of education and experience
- Prior supervisor experience
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram forms
- Good skills in MS Office, such as Word, Excel and Outlook
- Three to five years of experience with freight routing and rating systems
- experience with inventory and manufacturing management software
- Able to travel 1-2 times per month to visit with customers to develop solid relationships and partnerships focusing on distribution and logistics efficiencies and solutions
Desired Qualifications
- Prior supervisor experience preferred
- Prior experience with a warehouse management or other logistics management system
- Proficiency in SAP
