Traffic Engineering Municipal Lead

Job Summary

Lead mid- to large-scale municipal traffic engineering and active transportation projects across Texas, providing specialized technical oversight for safety analysis, signal design, and multimodal planning. Present complex findings to municipal clients, councils, and MPO boards while performing quality control reviews and approving engineering deliverables. Manage full project lifecycles by developing scopes, schedules, budgets, and fee proposals, then coordinate with transit agencies and regional planning organizations. Mentor junior staff and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local standards. This hybrid role supports business growth through proposal development and client relationship management for city and county agencies in Dallas, TX.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • 8 years of relevant traffic engineering experience
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of Texas, or ability to obtain within six months of hire
  • RSP (Road Safety Professional) certification
  • Proficiency with traffic engineering and modeling software such as MicroStation, SignCAD, Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, HCS, or similar tools
  • Experience with active transportation planning and design, safety analysis, and highway-rail grade crossing projects
  • Experience managing engineering design and/or planning projects from concept through construction support
  • Experience developing municipal business development strategies and preparing scopes, budgets, and proposals
  • Active participation in professional engineering organizations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated client-facing experience
  • This is a hybrid position, with flexibility to be based in Dallas, TX
  • All newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment

Desired Qualifications

  • 12+ years of related traffic engineering experience
  • Direct experience working with municipal agencies, including city and county transportation departments
  • Demonstrated success in business development, municipal client relationship management, and pursuit of transportation projects
  • Experience managing engineering design and/or planning projects from concept through construction support
  • Experience developing municipal business development strategies and preparing scopes, budgets, and proposals
