Job Summary
Traffic Engineer/Transportation Planner responsible for leading traffic operations studies, corridor and traffic impact studies, multimodal analyses, and planning efforts for transportation projects. Duties include independent technical analysis and design tasks, writing reports and specifications, leading design as engineer-of-record for traffic/transportation projects (including signals, signing, pavement markings, and ITS), mentoring junior staff, ensuring project budgets and schedules, and participating in business development and project pursuits with other managers. The role requires collaboration with public/private clients, preparation of technical proposals, and active involvement in interviews and client meetings. Travel may be required; flexible location within Apex offices in ND/MN or remote within a 250-mile radius of those offices; strong communication with the public and participation in team and company meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
- Professional Engineers License or ability to be licensed in North Dakota and Minnesota within 6 months
- Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification
- 5+ years of traffic engineering and transportation planning experience
- Experience with transportation projects and public agencies in ND and MN preferred
- Strong project management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated with strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Traffic modeling experience using Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, Vissim, and other software
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil3D, MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer
- Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one
- Ability to operate a computer in office setting; occasional outdoor work; lifting up to 25 pounds
