Job Summary
Provide technical leadership and oversight for traffic engineering and transportation planning projects, including reviewing traffic impact studies, signal warrant studies, and corridor evaluations. Lead preparation of traffic signal designs, signing and pavement marking plans, and maintenance of traffic plans while serving as a technical resource and mentor to engineering staff. Participate in project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and quality control reviews, and support proposal preparation, client presentations, and business development activities. Develop and implement quality assurance and quality control standards to improve consistency and technical excellence across projects. Stay current on industry standards, FHWA guidance, MUTCD requirements, and evolving traffic engineering best practices. This role supports the Transportation, Construction, and Design-Build groups across Illinois, Wisconsin, Florida, and Texas, collaborating with diverse disciplines and offices.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- 15+ years of progressive traffic engineering and transportation experience
- Strong knowledge of traffic operations, traffic safety, traffic signal systems, and transportation planning principles
- Experience managing and reviewing traffic impact studies, traffic signals improvements and general traffic engineering projects
- Ability to travel throughout Baxter & Woodman's Illinois service areas (own transportation) and attend client and in office meetings as required
- Ability to independently handle a variety of ongoing tasks and responsibilities
- Strong written, verbal, computer, and organizational skills
Desired Qualifications
- Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification preferred
- Licensed Professional Engineer preferred
