Job Summary
Traffic Engineer at Houston Engineering, Inc. (HEI) focused on designing safe and efficient transportation systems. Responsibilities include collaborating with state DOTs, counties, municipalities, and MPOs; identifying and pursuing new business and project opportunities; designing traffic signal systems, lighting systems, fiber optics, traffic control, signing, and pavement markings; conducting traffic operations analysis and traffic impact studies; optimizing signal timing to reduce congestion; analyzing traffic and crash data for intersection safety studies; strong emphasis on communication with internal and external groups; requires a State Professional Engineer’s License and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field
- 7+ years of experience as a Traffic Engineer
- State Professional Engineer’s License
- Familiar with MUTCD, AASHTO, HCM, IES, and other technical resources and guides
- Ability to work independently and as a team internally and externally
- Demonstrates strong critical thinking skills
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with groups both internally and externally
