Job Summary
Traffic Control Tech responsible for implementing and maintaining safe traffic control operations for overhead fiber optic construction projects. Set up, maintain, and remove traffic control devices; establish lane and shoulder closures; provide flagging for bucket trucks and pole transfers; coordinate with aerial linemen and ground crews; monitor traffic flow to maintain safe distances; ensure safe work zones around energized infrastructure; conduct site inspections for regulatory compliance; maintain and operate equipment such as arrow boards and TMAs; complete daily safety analyses and logs; communicate via two-way radio with crew members.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record (CDL may be required)
- Certification in traffic control procedures (e.g., flagger certification)
- Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) or local equivalent
- Ability to read and interpret traffic control plans and roadway diagrams
- Basic math and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to travel is a must
- Experience: traffic control: 1 year (Required)
- Flagger or work zone installer: 1 year (Required)
- License/Certification: driver's license (Required)
- Flagger Certification (Required)
- Strong attention to detail and situational awareness
- Excellent communication skills
- Physical stamina and ability to lift 50+ lbs
- Dependability and commitment to safety
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Possible night, weekend, and overtime shifts
