Job Summary
Traffic Control Supervisor responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing traffic control measures for construction projects, special events, and other public works. Ensures safe and efficient movement of pedestrians and vehicles while complying with traffic laws, safety regulations, and engineering standards. Essential duties include developing and reviewing traffic control plans with engineers and public agencies, supervising staff in configuring temporary traffic control measures (barriers, signage, lane control), ensuring compliance with MUTCD and TTC manuals, resolving operational issues and permit disputes, conducting on-site inspections of TTC setups, responding to traffic incidents and emergencies, preparing reports on traffic conditions and project progress, providing public traffic control information, enforcing safety policies, implementing temporary work zones, driving company vehicle to sites, managing flagging operations, and adhering to PPE policies. Overtime, night, and weekend work may be required. Requires high school diploma or GED, 3 years in related field, MDOT or ATSSA certification, leadership and communication skills, proficiency with traffic control devices, knowledge of federal motor carrier safety regulations, valid driver’s license, and legal right to work in the United States.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED preferred
- 3 years in public safety, traffic control, or related field
- Traffic control supervisor certification through MDOT or ATSSA
- Leadership, problem-solving, communication, and ability to work in outdoor, high-traffic environments
- Proficiency with traffic control devices (cones, barricades, signs), two-way radios, and safety gear
- Knowledge or ability to adhere to federal motor carrier safety regulations
- Must have the ability to handle several projects at once, while maintaining tight deadlines
- Must demonstrate excellent safety awareness, and a willingness to comply with company policies and safety standards
- Must always wear proper attire including safety vests, safety glasses when appropriate, long pants, hard sole/close-toed shoes, and reflect a clean and presentable image
- Project a positive and cooperative attitude by maintaining courteous and professional conduct with supervisors, co-workers, customers, and the public
- Valid Driver’s License required
- Must be able to provide proper documentation that you have the legal right to work in the United States
