Job Summary
Develop and implement traffic routing plans, distributing signs and markers to direct vehicular movement through construction sites. Warn workers of approaching vehicles, inform drivers of detour routes, and record violations for police. Manage mobile traffic zones by signaling clearance for reverse flow and directing flaggers. When not supervising, haul materials, stack supplies, shovel asphalt, operate small grinders, lay striping, and load/unload trucks. Requires two years of roadway construction experience, including mobile zone management, plus valid Colorado Flagger and Driver Licenses. Seasonal work dependent on weather and workload; outdoor environment with exposure to extreme elements.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Traffic Control Supervisor Certification by the State of Colorado or ATSSA
- Valid Colorado Flagger Certification
- Valid Drivers License
- Two years experience in Roadway Construction settings, with a full understanding of the construction phasing, planning and field execution
- Two years experience as a Traffic Control Supervisor with at least a year of that with mobile traffic control zones (managing the phasing of the mobile zone and people associated with that phasing)
- Basic reading and mathematical abilities
- Knowledge and skillful implementation of federal and state regulations for work zone safety and traffic control
- Knowledge of Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Device (MUTCD) guidelines and the translation of this to control traffic by using proper devices and techniques
- Knowledge of the safe and efficient use of hand and power tools including hand shovel, pick, construction bar, rake, broom, and other handheld power tools
- Knowledge of safety rules for construction sites and the ability to abide by them
- Knowledge of and exposure to hazardous materials
