Job Summary
Trades Assistant needed in Gladstone, QLD to support Wagon Supervisor and Workshop team with on-site and in-field maintenance and repairs of customer equipment. Responsibilities include assisting skilled trades staff, keeping workshop and depot spaces clean and organized, participating in safety improvements, completing required paperwork accurately and timely, and performing other duties aligned with training and competence. Essential skills include prior experience assisting tradespersons in a workshop or similar environment, strong mechanical aptitude, current Forklift High Risk Work Licence, flexibility to work rosters including shift work, good communication and interpersonal abilities, commitment to customer service, knowledge of Rail Safety and OH&S regulations, prioritization and adaptability, and a current Australian driver’s licence. Desirable experiences include wagon/rail industry experience, heavy engineering exposure, stores background, manufacturing, rigging/dogging/overhead crane qualifications, and MR or HR licences.
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience assisting skilled tradespersons in a workshop or similar environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Current High Risk Work Licence - Forklift (essential).
- Flexibility to participate in work rosters, including shift work where required.
- High-level interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels and contribute positively within a team environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to delivering high standards of customer service.
- Sound understanding of, and ability to comply with, Rail Safety and Occupational Health & Safety legislation and practices.
- Proven ability to prioritise tasks and adapt to changing workloads.
- Current Australian drivers licence.
