Track Labourer

Job Summary

Conduct regular track inspections, perform general repairs and maintenance on rails, ties, fences, and alignment, and respond to emergencies and track outages. Clean, lubricate, and adjust switches, crossings, and flangeways while maintaining all tools and small machines. Perform job hazard analysis, report unsafe conditions, and manage paperwork for purchasing supplies, equipment, and fuel. Complete required work reports including log books, maintenance reports, and audits. Operate equipment such as hi-rails, ballast regulators, loaders, and snowblowers as needed for customer track activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Qualified Track Inspector
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Canadian Rail Operating Rules certification
  • Other clearances required to perform the role
  • Ability to pass clear drug and alcohol testing
  • Physically fit including the ability to work in adverse weather conditions
  • Skilled and knowledgeable in the appropriate inspection, maintenance, and repair techniques required to ensure the rail line is safe for operation and in compliance with all required standards
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with people of all backgrounds and levels of comprehension including managers, employees, customers, and the public
  • Demonstrate initiative to work with others to foster a respectful workplace

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience operating various types of equipment such as hi-rails, ballast regulator/snow fighters, loaders, bobcats, snowblowers, tie tampers, rail drills, and spikers
