Job Summary
Track Laborer duties include performing physical labor to construct, alter, repair, maintain, and demolish railroad tracks and related structures as part of a local Line Maintenance crew. Responsibilities involve carrying and placing track materials with hand tools (tie tongs, rail tongs, rail forks, lining bars, shovels, jacks), attaching rails to ties, removing spikes, lifting and positioning crossties, connecting/disconnecting rail with track and power tools, moving and tamping ballast, raising tracks and crossings, cutting materials with torches and saws, drilling with various motors, and coordinating with heavy equipment operators. The role requires safety participation, PPE wear, and travel to multiple job sites; prior qualification includes a High School Diploma or GED, valid driver's license, ability to lift 75 pounds, and willingness to work in varying weather and on diverse terrain. Salary is presented in hourly rates with yearly progression (first year $30.98-$31.44/hr, second year $32.70-$33.18/hr, third year $34.42-$34.93/hr). Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have a valid Driver’s License
- Capable of lifting and carrying a minimum of 75 pounds
- Willing and able to travel to various job sites, including those that require overnight stays and those that require short notice mobilization
- Capable of working in inclement weather and/or conditions
- Capable of covering distances afoot up to five (5) miles per day, on railroad right of way, negotiating steep grades and rough terrain, without assistance
- Capable of working unsupervised at times
- Interact effectively as a crew member
- Understand and follow verbal and visual communications
- Understand and respond to audible visual signals and warnings
- Quickly learn and perform job duties
- Recognize, avoid, and report potential hazards
