Job Summary

Replace and repair track defects, install ties and spikes, and clear debris while maintaining drainage and safety along the rails. Utilize hand tools and operate company vehicles as needed, responding to emergencies and track outages. Perform tasks involving standing, lifting, and squatting for long periods, including lifting 50lbs or greater. Work shifts with variable start times, including nights and days, set on a weekly basis that may change daily. This local Engineering team role requires no prior railroad experience but demands a high school diploma, valid driver's license, and ability to work in all weather conditions. Candidates must pass physical assessments and safety exams to ensure safe train operations across the transnational railroad network.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general equivalency
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Previous outdoor work experience in all weather conditions (rain, direct sunlight, snow etc.)
  • Strong communication skills (provide clear and concise instructions/directions including over radio)
  • Ability to safely work around heavy equipment and operate power and manual tools while adhering to all safety protocols and maintaining a secure work environment
  • Must be able to pass the required physical job tasks for the job position
  • Must be able to read and understand safety instructions
  • Must be able to read and understand operating rules and regulations
  • Must be able to read and understand other written or printed material in English
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs or greater
  • Must be able to stand, squat for long periods
  • Must be able to work shifts and start times set on a weekly basis that may change daily
  • Must be able to work night or day shifts
  • Must be able to respond to emergencies and track outages
  • Must be able to operate company vehicles when needed
  • Must be able to replace and repair various track defects

  • Must be able to pass a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, and hearing
  • Must be able to pass a negative company or regulated drug test
  • Must be able to pass post hire qualification drug testing
  • Must be able to pass a criminal history check
  • Must be able to pass education verification
  • Must be able to pass driver's license verification and driving history
  • Must be able to pass Social Security Number verification
  • Must be able to pass Department of Transportation Background Check 40.25 Form
