Job Summary
Inspect rails, ties, roadbed, and switches while operating machinery to ensure track safety. Collaborate with the Track Superintendent and customers to install and repair track, including pulling spikes, replacing ties, surfacing, and changing rails. Complete all required documentation and promote a safe work environment. Perform physical tasks such as driving spikes with a sledge hammer and removing spikes with a claw bar. Maintain balance on uneven terrain and navigate confined spaces as needed. Requires 24/7 availability and adherence to strict safety protocols around moving locomotives and railcars.
Required Qualifications
- Prefer related work experience of at least 2 years involving track inspection, repair, and maintenance
- Able to pass railroad safety test and training
- Can safely and efficiently operate power tools
- Must have good communication skills
- Must have good employee relations
- Should be multi-task oriented
- Should possess good analytical skills
- Able to perform physical strenuous work
- Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch
- Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50lbs
- Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner
- Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary
- 24/7 availability required
- Must be able to apply 50lbs of force with a 30lb claw bar
- Must be able to apply 75lbs of force with a 10lb sledge hammer
- Must be able to operate machinery in order to adequately inspect the track
- Must be able to complete all required documentation
- Must be able to promote a safe work environment
- Must be able to work in conjunction with the Track Superintendent, Track team, and customer
- Must be able to install and repair track
- Must be able to complete other projects as needed
- Must be able to pull and drive spikes
- Must be able to replace ties
- Must be able to surface track
- Must be able to change rail, bars, and other track apparatus
- Must be able to perform duties in job-site environments, in and around moving locomotives, railcars, vehicles and equipment
- Must be able to handle frequent exposure to weather elements
- Must be able to wear appropriate PPE for job site visits
- Must agree to pre-employment criminal background checks
- Must agree to substance abuse testing including a urine drug test
