Job Summary
Towles Intermediate Special Education Assistant helps teachers in instructional, clerical, student-management, and daily-life activities for students in special education or general classrooms. The role supports instructional methods for students with disabilities, supervises students, and participates in trainings. Schedule aligns with the school year, typically 7:15am–3:30pm, with part-time hours and benefits for longer days. Requires a high school diploma or GED and experience or training related to working with students with special needs; strong office, computer, and communication skills; ability to relate well with students, staff, and parents; and willingness to supervise students in community settings. Preferred qualifications include college coursework or CDA credentials and completing Para-Pro-like assessments; strong tutoring skills and flexibility to meet changing student needs.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience working with students with special needs (preferred)
- Flexibility to meet changing needs of students
- Strong tutorial skills
- Ability to relate well with students, staff and parents
- Positive attitude and ability to complete tasks independently
- Strong office, computer, and oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of child guidance principles and practices
- Willingness to supervise students in community settings
- Participation in training provided by Special Education Department
- Two years of college experience or CDA credentials (preferred) may be considered for Highly-qualified status
- Paraprofessional credentials or validation (Para-Pro or equivalent) (preferred)
