Tower Crane Service Technician

Job Summary

Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair tower cranes and construction personnel hoists while diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues. Perform scheduled maintenance, service motor controls, and read electrical schematics to ensure equipment reliability on major construction projects. Work at heights and outdoors, following strict safety protocols and OSHA standards. Communicate professionally with customers and vendors, manage competing job site demands, and submit required reports. Assist with equipment transport and shop maintenance as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Demonstrated knowledge of 480-volt, three-phase electrical control systems
  • Experience with PLCs
  • Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs)
  • Ability to work at height
  • Ability to work in outdoor construction environments
  • Ability to work on a flexible schedule

  • Rigging and Signal Person certification (such as NCCCO or equivalent acceptable to Morrow)
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Valid State driver's license
  • Insurable by the company's carrier
  • Forklift operator's license
  • Crane Operator Qualification
  • Ability to represent the Company in a professional manner
  • Willingness to wear Company supplied MEC Branded shirts or FR uniforms
  • Understanding and compliance with Company policies, OSHA, Applicable ASME B30 safety standards, State and local specific safety regulations, and site-specific safety plans
  • Willingness to notify the District Service Manager or Corporate Safety Director of unsafe conditions
  • Compliance with safety regulations, standards and Company policies
  • Ability to submit required paper work and reports
  • Ability to safeguard tools and equipment belonging to the Company
  • Ability to maintain a clear and orderly workspace
  • Willingness to assist co-workers
  • Willingness to work overtime

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with PLCs and variable frequency drives (VFDs) is preferred
