Job Summary

The Torque Coordinator role centers on developing, implementing, and sustaining the torque control strategy across the GM Defense plant to ensure critical fastenings are installed safely and correctly. You’ll lead tooling selection and maintenance (DC tools, nutrunners, click/beam wrenches, torque/angle monitoring systems), calibrations, and traceability of records; monitor torque performance, drive corrective actions, and support new product launches and change management. Training operators and mentoring backup coordinators, and collaborating cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, and Supplier Quality will be key. The role requires onsite work in a manufacturing environment, occasional travel, and potential relocation benefits. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and at least two years in manufacturing/assembly are required, along with eligibility to meet export control requirements, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work with diverse teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering, manufacturing or technical discipline or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of two years' experience in manufacturing or assembly operations

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to process data, and apply structured problem-solving methods
  • Proficiency with standard office software and ability to learn plant systems (e.g., maintenance CMMS, quality/production data systems)
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and influence without direct authority
  • Willingness to travel to suppliers, sister plants, or corporate technical centers as required
  • Onsite manufacturing plant environment experience
  • Ability to support off-shift, weekend work, and overtime during launches or critical issue resolution
  • Demonstrated experience with torque-controlled fastening processes and equipment (DC tools, torque/angle systems, mechanical torque tools)
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing / Global Manufacturing System (GMS) and continuous improvement tools
  • Experience with torque management systems and industrial networks
  • Familiarity with PFMEA and control plans

Additional Requirements

  • U.S. Person or eligible to obtain export control authorization
  • No immigration sponsorship (GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role)
  • Must be able to report to a specific location onsite
