Job Summary
Read tool crib logs at shift start and report problems. Measure angular dimensions, radii, contours, and thread lead using precision instruments like micrometers and dial indicators. Test units for mechanical functioning and inspect gauges for conformance to specifications. Receive, unpack, store, and distribute incoming and issued tools, marking items as needed. Maintain inventory records via computer, issue bar codes, and locate misplaced equipment. Set tools per tool sheets, operate pre-setters, and troubleshoot tooling issues with machinists. Remove used tooling from holders, review for resharpening, and send damaged items to vendors. Verify tools against carts and ensure MSDS labels are attached before distribution. This role supports the machining operation at Major Tool & Machine, a contract manufacturer in Indianapolis with over 400 skilled employees.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Visual Acuity: Near acuity and accommodation
- Hearing Ability: Accommodations as required for communicating with employees and customers and recognizing sounds associated with machinery
Desired Qualifications
- Vocational training, trade school, work experience or apprenticeship with machining background
- Three to six months experience
