Job Summary
Set up and operate manual lathes, mills, and surface grinders to manufacture precision tooling and custom components. Build, modify, repair, and maintain tooling, fixtures, jigs, and gauges while performing turning, milling, drilling, boring, tapping, threading, grinding, and finishing operations. Read engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications, then inspect finished parts using micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators to ensure dimensional accuracy. Collaborate with engineering teams to develop prototype solutions and troubleshoot tooling issues by implementing design improvements. Assist in establishing machine shop standards, workflows, and preventive maintenance programs while maintaining a clean, compliant shop environment.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of experience as a Toolmaker, Precision Machinist, or Tool & Die Maker in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment
- Strong experience operating manual lathes and manual milling machines
- Hands-on experience with precision surface grinding
- Experience setting up and operating CNC machining equipment
- Ability to machine complex parts to tight tolerances
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments, including: Micrometers, Calipers, Dial indicators, Height gauges, Bore gauges
- Excellent mechanical aptitude with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Desired Qualifications
- Experience helping establish, organize, or expand a machine shop
- Experience working in coal, mining, power generation, or other heavy industrial environments
