Job Summary

Toolmaker Apprentice works under engineering guidance to set up, adjust, operate, and maintain tool room equipment (mills, lathes, grinders) and to construct/alter/repair tooling, dies, fixtures, gauges, and customer-supplied parts. Reads blueprints with tolerances and dimensions, communicates changes to the print as needed, and maintains a clean, organized, and safe workspace. Maintains project progress communications and meets tooling deadlines on a first-shift schedule (7:30 a.m.–4 p.m., Monday–Friday). The role emphasizes learning and growth, solid mechanical aptitude, and hands-on experience in machining and metal fabrication, with opportunities to pursue Journeyman Tool and Die maker credentials.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Willingness to pursue requirements leading to a Journeyman Tool and Die maker credential (preferably enrolled in tool and die certificate or apprentice program)
  • 1 year of experience in a metal fabrication and/or machining environment
  • Experience reading/interpreting technical materials and engineering drawings
  • Experience using measurement tools (micrometer, caliper, height gauge)
  • Solid mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal/written) with staff at all levels
  • Able to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Willingness to work overtime to meet tooling completion dates
