Job Summary
Tooling Engineering Manager leads development and execution of advanced tooling strategies to support scalable production of high-power laser platforms within Production Operations. Oversees a multidisciplinary team spanning mechanical, optical, electrical, and controls engineering/techs; manages tooling cost, performance, and lifecycle; enforces rigorous design documentation and change control; collaborates with product and EHS teams to establish safety, workflow, testing, and data management requirements; participates in design activities as needed; conducts annual performance reviews and HR activities. Requires U.S. DoD security clearance (preferred if already held).
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of BS degree in mechanical engineering
- 5+ years of development experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams
- 10 years’ experience and high-power laser/optical experience preferred
- Proficiency with SolidWorks and engineering drawing practices including tolerance analysis and GD&T
- Detailed understanding of machining tools, methods and capabilities
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Understanding of heat transfer, thermal modeling, stress/strain, materials selection and standard machining and sheet metal process
- Experience leading tooling cost/performance trade-offs and lifecycle management
- Ability to administer performance reviews and HR-related activities
- U.S. DoD Personnel Security Clearance required or ability to obtain one
- Preference for candidates with an existing DoD clearance
- Experience collaboration with product and EHS teams
- Ability to contribute technically when needed
