Job Summary
Tooling Engineering Manager role focusing on leading Dyson-like tooling and molding operations, driving NPI and sustaining project tool/mold development from concept through commercial scale. Responsibilities include providing tooling support to design teams, coordinating tool vendors and external contract manufacturers, signing off tool DFM and assembly drawings, reviewing tool size, cavity counts, cycle-time estimates, and costs; performing CAD model edits and mold flow analyses; managing high-volume/low-mix and low-volume/high-mix projects; leading cross-functional collaboration with RDD, Quality, Manufacturing, and Process/Assembly Technology; and mentoring assistants. Required capabilities include tool design and machining expertise, injection tooling and mold design, ability to interpret CAD/ drawings, project management, vendor management, and strong communication skills; desirable certifications and experience in Six Sigma, DOE, and metrology.
Required Qualifications
- 10-15 years of working experience in Tool Design/Machining/Injection tooling and moulding; hands-on experience in tool design and selection of steel/hot runner/gating systems
- Injection moulding process in-depth knowledge including machine selection, process development, troubleshooting, hot runner selection with respect to application and product requirements
- Experience interpreting 3D CAD files and 2D drawings; ability to review tool design; lead mold/tooling projects
- Proven leadership as a molding lead within a cross-functional group with responsibility for positive project results
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to work with all levels of the organization
- Experience developing new products from concept to launch, including pilot to full production scale; experience with mold flow analysis for part design and moldability
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under high pressure; proactive and self-starter
- Desirable: Six Sigma Green Belt; RJG Master Molder training; Metrology and fixture development; CAD (UG) experience; DOE/statistical software familiarity
- Minimum Certificate in Mechanical Engineering discipline
- Ability to train, mentor, and counsel assistants and team members on manufacturability of high-volume medical molded parts
- Experience with supplier/vendor management for molds and equipment
