Job Summary
Design tooling for all processes utilized to manufacture Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs), establishing best design practices for materials, dimensions, tolerances, and work holding across prototyping, low volume, and high volume production. Collaborate with cross-functional manufacturing and engineering teams to develop effective tooling solutions that support process development, while supporting comprehensive data collection and analysis to establish metrics for tooling effectiveness, cost, and durability. Monitor outcomes to identify and implement improvement opportunities, and investigate new technologies to address business goals. This onsite role at Pratt & Whitney supports the manufacturing maturation of CMC turbine components for more fuel-efficient, lighter-weight, and durable aircraft engines.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. citizenship
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 2+ years of Engineering experience, or an advanced degree in a related field with no experience
- Proficiency with CAD tools such as NX, CATIA, Creo, or SolidWorks
- Working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles, with the ability to interpret standard tolerancing schemes and apply them appropriately to ensure accuracy and functionality in designs
- Demonstrated experience with manufacturing processes and assembly techniques
Desired Qualifications
- 2 years of experience with NX solid modeling software
- Experience designing molds, machining fixtures, assembly fixtures, or other tooling used for composite or ceramic processing in the aerospace industry utilizing a range of materials including graphite, metal and polymers
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and process improvement tools
- Understanding of additive manufacturing and advanced tooling technologies
- Strong oral and written communication skills
