Job Summary
Tooling and Equipment Engineer responsible for providing advanced tooling and fixture design and leadership across IAC manufacturing facilities, supporting feasibility assessments, PPAP-driven cycle times and OEE targets, and coordinating with suppliers and OEMs. Responsibilities include managing tool design/construction budgets and timing for secondary machine/fixture builds, providing tooling leadership to project teams, coordinating preproduction machine run-offs and approval processes, participating in cost negotiations, supporting pre-production startup during PPAP, and offering technical support to optimize manufacturing processes for quality and profitability. The role requires travel (20-30%), flexibility to work at multiple plant and supplier locations, and strong negotiation, independent-work, and cross-functional collaboration skills. Preferred background includes a four-year engineering degree and substantial experience with interior trim automotive components, automation technologies, PLC/HMI systems, and modern manufacturing controls.
Required Qualifications
- (4) yr ME or IE Bachelor's Degree (Preferred)
- 7–10 years’ experience in machine / fixture design, construction/build, & follow-up for interior trim automotive components (Floor Consoles, Instrument Panels. Hard Trim, or Doors).
- Core secondary operations / processes: heatstake / sonic welding, hot plate/IR welding, punching, edge wrapping, and vac forming
- Automotive experience with past programs / interior trim launches
- Excellent time management and project management skills
- Must have good written and oral skill sets, be proficient with Microsoft Office and other computer skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to resolve issues quickly and to recognize and resolve threats to program objectives
- Experience with Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens PLC (Preferred by not required)
- Experience developing and modifying HMI software, including RSView, FactoryTalk View, WinCC, and Ignition
- Knowledge of legacy automation networks, including DH+, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Modbus, Profibus, ASi, and others
- Develop new and support old programming using Studio5000, RSLogix 5000, RSLogix 500, RSView Studio, FactoryTalk View Studio, RSSQL, RSNetWorx
