Job Summary
Tool Room Machinist sets up and operates manual and CNC machines to manufacture, repair, and modify tooling, fixtures, dies, jigs, and precision components. Responsibilities include interpreting blueprints and GD&T, proving out CNC programs, setting offsets, troubleshooting tooling, maintaining tool room organization, and ensuring tight tolerances and tooling quality while minimizing downtime. Skills include manual machining proficiency, CNC setup, fixture and die building, inspection with calipers and micrometers, knowledge of tool steels, heat treating, surface finishes, and safe work practices.
Required Qualifications
- 3–7+ years experience in tool room or precision machining environment
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge
- Experience with tight tolerance machining
- Proficient in manual machining (critical in tool room environment)
- CNC setup experience preferred
- Knowledge of tool steels, heat treating, and surface finishes
- Proficiency in using calipers, micrometers, and other inspection equipment
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- GED or high school diploma required
