Job Summary
Tooling Technician responsible for the maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and optimization of dies, trim dies, fixtures, and related tooling used in high pressure aluminum die casting operations. This role supports production by ensuring tooling performs safely, efficiently, and within quality standards while minimizing downtime. Essential duties include preventative maintenance and repair on dies and tooling, troubleshooting tooling-related production issues (flash, porosity, soldering, mismatch, dimensional concerns), disassembly/reassembly of dies and components, repairing tooling using welding/grinding/polishing/fitting techniques, coordinating die changes and supporting die setup, monitoring tooling performance to improve tool life and efficiency, maintaining tooling maintenance records, assisting with new tool tryouts and process improvements, verifying cooling lines/vents/slides/ejector/hydraulic components, supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions, and ensuring safety/quality/housekeeping standards while collaborating with engineering/quality/operations to achieve production goals.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical training or apprenticeship preferred.
- Experience in high pressure aluminum die casting tooling maintenance preferred.
- Knowledge of die cast tooling, trim tooling, and related manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read blueprints, tooling drawings, and precision measuring instruments.
- Experience with welding, CNC/manual machining, grinding, polishing, and fitting techniques preferred.
- Understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, and cooling systems associated with die cast tooling.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Basic computer and documentation skills.
