Job Summary
Fabricate, alter, and repair tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures by interpreting blueprints, sketches, and 3D models to determine dimensions and tolerances. Operate machine tools including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and EDMs while performing precision measurements to ensure accuracy. Troubleshoot complex tooling issues, recommend design improvements, and select appropriate materials and heat treatment processes for longevity. Maintain and calibrate equipment while ensuring a clean and safe work environment. This opportunity is with the Pivot Group Network, a West Michigan recruiting group collaborating with manufacturing firms in Norton Shores for skilled Tool Makers.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized Tool & Die Maker apprenticeship program or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a manufacturing environment, specializing in tool making
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
- Demonstrated ability to operate a variety of machine shop equipment, including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDM machines
- Strong understanding of GD&T principles and their application in precision manufacturing
- Experience with CAD/CAM software for tool design and programming
Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with a variety of machining processes beyond traditional milling and turning, such as EDM, laser cutting, or grinding
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving tooling issues
- Ability to interpret and work from complex engineering drawings and specifications, including GD&T
- Certification or advanced training in precision machining, metrology, or a related field
