Job Summary
Design, build, modify, and repair tooling, dies, fixtures, and precision components from engineering drawings or CAD files while diagnosing issues to minimize production downtime. Manufacture precision tools, jigs, and machine components through grinding, milling, turning, and drilling operations, then inspect finished work using precision measuring instruments to ensure dimensional accuracy. Set up, adjust, and test tooling prior to production while maintaining clean, organized, and safe work environments. Operate manual machine shop equipment including mills, lathes, and power presses, and support engineering with prototype tooling and process improvements. Maintain tooling records and communicate repair recommendations, adhering to all company safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Tool & Die Maker certification
- Tool & Die Maker experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience operating manual machine shop equipment
- Experience reading engineering drawings and machining precision components
- Ability to safely and accurately operate all measuring and production equipment
- Working understanding of geometry, trigonometry, and algebra
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, CAD prints, and GD&T
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, dial indicators, and gauges
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong commitment to workplace safety
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Frequently bend, kneel, crouch, reach, climb, and work around manufacturing equipment
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Manual dexterity required to operate precision machine tools
- Ability to distinguish small measurements and details
- Ability to work safely around moving mechanical equipment
- Must be able to work Monday-Friday
- Must be able to read and write
- Must be able to work in a team environment
Desired Qualifications
- Completion of a Tool & Die apprenticeship or equivalent technical training
- Experience repairing progressive, compound, and forming dies
- Experience working with stamping operations
