Job Summary
Design and build new dies, fixtures, and gauges while repairing and maintaining existing tooling and production equipment. Troubleshoot and resolve issues with progressive dies and stamping operations, then perform precision grinding, machining, and heat treating of tool steel components. Interpret blueprints, schematics, and CAD models to determine part specifications, and set up and operate tool room machinery including mills, lathes, grinders, and EDMs. This role supports manufacturing firms in Norton Shores that maintain high standards for tooling and production.
Required Qualifications
- Apprenticeship completion or equivalent experience (4+ years) in tool and die making
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings
- Expertise in operating manual and CNC machinery (mills, lathes, grinders, EDMs)
- Strong understanding of metallurgy, heat treatment, and material properties
- Demonstrated ability to use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges)
- Knowledge of GD&T principles and application

- Experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam) for design and programming
