Job Summary
Analyze blueprints, RFQs, project specifications, and drawings to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates for instrumentation and electrical projects. Assess cost effectiveness of products and services while tracking actual costs relative to bids. Consult with clients, vendors, engineers, architects, and subcontractors to formulate estimates, resolve issues, and adjust costs for changes. Prepare estimates for management planning, vendor selection, and project proposals. Review material and labor requirements to decide whether to produce or purchase components. Establish tendering processes, conduct negotiations, and maintain supplier and contractor directories. Conduct site visits to record service availability and perform special studies to develop standard cost data. Ensure all estimates comply with industry standards and company policies while attending bid walks and project meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating instrumentation and electrical projects
- Working knowledge of the petrochemical/refinery industry and latest market conditions in related industry
- Expert knowledge about various civil, structural, piping and mechanical aspects
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings/blueprints
- Knowledge of various safety measures to be carried out on a construction site
- Knowledge of using various electrical appliances during construction work and about various building codes
- Knowledge of different delivery methods: lump sum, time & material, note to exceed, and unit pricing
- Must be able to successfully pass a pulmonary function test (PFT)
- Must be able to pass a respirator fit test
- Must be able to wear protecting hearing equipment or frequently shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level
- Must be able to lift or move office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds
- Must be able to operate in a petrochemical/ refinery environment with exposure to cold working conditions during winter months and hot working conditions during the summer months
- Must be able to pass all required drug/alcohol testing and background checks as required
