Job Summary

Examine title orders within company guidelines to determine conditions of title and insurability by analyzing deeds, mortgages, liens, judgments, and other public records. Prepare accurate and comprehensive title commitments in accordance with examining and policy procedures while identifying defects and formulating curative solutions. Research title plant software to evaluate pertinent documents for ownership, legal descriptions, and title connections. Explain chain of title exceptions and requirements to customers and managers. Assess risks and liabilities that may jeopardize the company, reporting matters to local, state, or underwriting managers as appropriate. Maintain proper production levels and delivery standards on a daily basis while working closely with customers and management to meet time requirements for options.

Required Qualifications

  • Prior experience preparing title commitments
  • Minimum of four years of industry experience
  • High School diploma (or equivalent)
  • Prior experience examining in the states of MN, WI, IL, MO, KS, NE
  • Knowledge of real estate law and title and escrow curative procedures
  • Knowledge of underwriting policies and guidelines for specified states
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining control
  • Excellent problem-solving/critical thinking
  • Organizational skills and ability to work within established time frames
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with title searching software preferred, such as DataTree, DATA Trace, FASTSearch, County websites etc.
  • Specialized training in word processing software, database or spreadsheet software (obtained either in school or by up to six months of training)
