Job Summary
Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations, interpret findings, and develop individualized treatment programs to help patients rebuild lives following traumatic brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, or limb loss. Implement basic OT skills while supervising COTAs and Rehab Technicians, periodically assessing progress and adjusting goals as needed. Communicate effectively with patients, caregivers, physicians, and insurance companies, and document all care accurately in medical records. Manage time effectively and ensure safe care for patients, staff, and visitors while adhering to hospital policies and standards. May serve as a clinical instructor for interns and present special topics at professional meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors or graduate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university-based Occupational therapy program
- Current or temporary License to practice Occupational Therapy by the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners
- Current certification in Basic Life Support
- Ability to lift up to 75-100 pounds
- Ability to carry up to 30 pounds
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods
- Ability to walk frequently
- Ability to stoop and squat frequently
- Fine hand dexterity
- Eye-hand coordination
- Ability to receive oral and written communication
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
- Visual ability to monitor instruments, computers and equipment
- Ability to recognize alphanumeric characters
- Ability to distinguish colors
- Ability to observe physical characteristics
- Ability to perform complete, comprehensive evaluation of patients
- Ability to accurately interpret evaluation findings
- Ability to complete a written plan of care
- Ability to develop goals based on evaluation findings
- Ability to develop a comprehensive program to attain goals
- Ability to implement an occupational therapy treatment program
- Ability to provide basic occupational therapy treatments
- Competency in performing basic occupational therapy skills
- Ability to supervise COTA's and Rehab Technicians with regards to individual patient care treatments
- Ability to assess patients periodically to monitor progress towards treatment goals
- Ability to alter goals, plan or program as indicated
- Ability to motivate and instruct patients/caregivers using appropriate methods
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients/caregivers and professional colleagues to include physicians and insurance companies
- Ability to present relevant special topics in professional literature at clinic meetings, grand rounds, conferences, university settings and meetings as delegated or requested by the faculty
- Ability to manage time effectively
- Ability to document appropriately in the medical record and complete other documentation duties accurately and efficiently
- Ability to serve as Clinical Instructor for OT or OTA interns
- Ability to ensure safe care to patients, staff and visitors
- Ability to adhere to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service
- Ability to promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency
- Ability to support department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization
- Ability to serve as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff
- Ability to create compassionate and personalized experiences
- Ability to provide safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues
