Job Summary
Part-time TIGRINYA Interpreter responsible for translating and facilitating clear communication between non-English-speaking patients and medical staff during clinical visits. Responsibilities include providing translation services throughout visits, assisting with intake forms (demographic, medical history, financial verification), supporting the social service intake process, and helping diminish cultural barriers to care. Requires fluent Tigrinya (verbal, reading, and written), strong bilingual communication, EMR experience a plus, advanced computer skills, and knowledge of cultural barriers in medical care. Works closely with clinicians to ensure accurate understanding and facilitates patient engagement and documentation. Pre-employment drug screen, background check, and immunization review are required; E-Verify participation and equal employment opportunities comply with policy.
Required Qualifications
- Fluency in verbal, reading and written bilingual communication skills – Tigrinya
- EMR experience a definite plus
- Advanced computer skills
- Knowledge of cultural barriers to medical care and ability to diminish barriers on the patients’ and SCHC’s behalf
- Provide translation services and support the non-English speaking patients and their families throughout their clinical visit
- Works directly with medical staff to ensure accurate communication and understanding between patient and staff
- Assists patients in completing all necessary intake forms at initial visit, including but not limited to demographic and medical history, and financial verification
- Assists social service worker and patient in completing the social service intake process
- Pre-employment drug screen, background check, and review of required immunizations
