Job Summary
The Salvation Army Hanover Thrift Store Clerk provides customer service, sorts and processes donations, assists in retail operations, and helps maintain store appearance and inventory. Responsibilities include loading/unloading donations, pricing according to store policy, stocking merchandise, interacting with donors and customers in a courteous manner, meeting store sales targets, ensuring stock quality, coordinating with volunteers, and adhering to health and safety policies. The role requires cash handling, familiarity with cash registers and card transactions, basic math, physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds, and the ability to work flexible weekday–Saturday hours. Must pass background checks and meet Canada Summer Jobs program eligibility; completion of Grade 9 with at least 3 months related experience is preferred. Compensation is structured within a hiring range of hourly pay, with a total annualized range based on the stated hourly figures.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of Grade 9
- Minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience
- Cash handling experience is required
- Knowledge and experience using a cash register, debit machine and/or credit card processing is a definite asset
- Basic math skills required
- Ability to stand for long periods with frequent twisting, bending, crouching and reaching
- Ability to lift/move 40 pounds
- Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability
- Strong listening and communication skills
- Ability to undergo background checks satisfactorily
Additional Requirements
- Aged 15 to 30 years at the beginning of the employment period
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection under IRPA for duration of employment
- Valid Social Insurance Number
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada
- International students are not eligible participation
- Must meet program eligibility for Canada Summer Jobs Program
