Job Summary
Thin Film Engineer to design and optimize optical thin film coatings and develop manufacturing plans. Primary duties include creating coating designs to meet specifications, supporting manufacturing with process documentation, driving efficiency through Lean/Six Sigma, and collaborating cross-functionally to implement improvements. Role involves mentoring technicians, tracking project schedules and budgets with MS Project, and ensuring compliance with metrology requirements and export-control considerations. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline and 0–3 years of related experience, with strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork capabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or similar technical discipline or equivalent experience in engineering and process development
- 0-3 years of Engineering experience in manufacturing process development, optics or optical coating technologies is preferred
- Experience with metrology equipment used for characterizing thin films (spectrophotometry, interferometry)
- Experience with SPC, Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing in problem solving, statistics, and quality
- Ability to work independently and in fast-paced environment; strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and MS Project (or similar planning software)
- Ability to develop optical thin film coating designs meeting customer specifications and create detailed manufacturing plans
- Ability to collaborate across Sales, Production, QA, EHS and R&D; mentor/training capability
- Background in high-mix, low-volume production environments
- Willingness to obtain security clearance (as applicable)
- Export control eligibility considerations (ITAR/EAR) as described in company policies
