Job Summary
Thermal Simulation Engineer position at Johnson Controls in Burlington, MA. Build and validate coupled thermo-fluid simulations to optimize thermal performance of Stack Forging Thermal Solutions for AI infrastructure, HPC, and other demanding environments. Collaborate with Solutions Engineers and Thermal Design Engineers to develop and improve simulation best practices, translating complex designs into actionable insights using first-principles calculations and CFD tools. Role emphasizes hands-on calculations, selection of turbulence closures, mesh refinement studies, and extracting dimensionless correlation coefficients to predict pressure drops and thermal performance. Hybrid onsite arrangement (4 days in office, 1 day remote) with commuting or relocation to the facility. Requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field and 3+ years of experience; US citizenship or permanent residency is required for sponsorship restrictions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering or a related field
- 3+ years of industry experience
- Experience with CFD simulation software
- Experience in thermal-fluid simulation and analysis (turbulence closures, mesh refinement, model error estimation, extracting dimensionless correlation coefficients)
- Preferred: Siemens SimCenter experience
- Ability to deliver results in a quickly evolving environment and provide estimates for thermal performance within a few days to support customer-facing projects
- Familiarity with design engineering processes and how work informs that process
