Job Summary
Lead design and development of high-temperature reactor systems and balance-of-plant integration for pilot-to-commercial scale at ETCH. Responsibilities include designing and optimizing annulus reactor bundles for thermal uniformity and structural integrity, developing detailed mechanical designs for pilot modifications, performing thermal and structural calculations for operation at ≥1000°C, evaluating materials of construction, and leading mechanical layout for BOP components (heat exchangers, piping, valves, gas handling). Conduct thermal modeling (CFD/FEA preferred), stress and lifecycle analyses to improve system efficiency, uptime, and reliability. Collaborate with fabrication teams, vendors, and operations during installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting; support transition from pilot to commercial-scale systems. Requires hands-on engineering mindset, ability to work in a fast-paced startup, and strong ownership attitude.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 5+ years of experience in high-temperature systems, reactor design / process equipment, thermal systems engineering
- Experience with chemical plants, hydrogen systems, pyrolysis, or similar is highly preferred
- Strong fundamentals in heat transfer, fluid mechanics, structural mechanics
- Experience with CAD tools (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar)
- FEA/CFD tools (ANSYS, COMSOL, etc.)
- High-temperature alloys, ceramics, and refractory materials
- Pressure systems and piping design codes (ASME preferred)
- Experience designing modular or bundled reactor systems
- Familiarity with scale-up challenges (pilot → commercial)
- Hands-on mindset with ability to work in fast-paced startup environments
- Strong problem-solving and ownership attitude
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment toward timely execution of goals
