Thermal Engineer –Liquid Cooling
$85,000–$140,000 year
On-site · Markham, Ontario, Canada
Job Summary
Thermal engineer role focusing on design, simulation, validation, and optimization of liquid-based cooling for high-density front-end I/O systems in data-center and HPC environments. Responsibilities include architecting liquid-cooled cold plates, optimizing microchannel structures and flow paths, selecting materials for high heat flux and reliability, collaborating with mechanical and connector design teams, engaging with customers to define thermal boundary conditions and performance requirements, performing CFD simulations (using ANSYS Icepak, FloTHERM, or equivalent), analyzing temperature distributions and fluid flow, conducting experimental validation and root-cause analysis, and producing technical reports and presentations. Requires 4+ years in active cooling, experience with liquid cooling for high-speed connectors/front-panel I/O, strong CAD skills (SolidWorks, Creo), and strong communication skills for customer-facing discussions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or a related field
- Strong experience in thermal design or analysis for electronic systems, interconnects, or data center hardware
- At least 4 years of industry experience in active and advanced cooling technologies (cold plates, heat exchangers, heat pipes, vapor chambers)
- Experience developing liquid cooling solutions for high-speed connectors, modules, or front-panel I/O systems
- Proficiency with CFD and thermal simulation tools (ANSYS Icepak, FloTHERM, or similar)
- Experience with thermal instrumentation and data acquisition (thermocouples, flow sensors, IR imaging)
- Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent
- Solid understanding of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and electronic packaging
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for customer-facing technical discussions
