Job Summary
Therapeutic Specialist will design and facilitate group activities as therapeutic interventions for middle school and high school-aged children in onsite housing and affordable housing programs, employing trauma-informed care. Responsibilities include assessing needs through multiple sources, creating and implementing treatment plans, conducting interventions to mitigate trauma effects, documenting progress (Biopsychosocials, notes, summaries), and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. The role uses evidence-based models (e.g., Conscious Discipline, CBT, Motivational Interviewing), supports a caseload of 2-3 children, and engages teens in activities across social, arts, drama, sports, and field trips. The position involves coordinating with families, participating in staff meetings, and supporting program goals, with flexibility for after-school, school-break, and occasional weekend work.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation, child/human/family development (with child life concentration or minor), or mental health field
- Minimum of three years of experience in the field of recreation therapy or related field for bachelor’s level candidates
- Direct experience working with children and parents
Additional Requirements
- Must pass applicable pre-employment screening
- Must be available to work after school hours, during school breaks, and occasional weekends
- Bi-lingual preferred
- National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) or Child Life Certification preferred
