Job Summary
Classroom Paraprofessional in Heartspring program provides a safe, structured classroom environment for students with developmental disabilities and behavioral challenges. Responsibilities include implementing IEP and SSP procedures, documenting student training programs, assisting with therapy-related activities (occupational, physical, speech), escorting students to events, supporting crisis intervention, following Safe and Positive Approaches, effective communication with students, families, and staff, documenting health concerns and incident reports, and maintaining regular attendance. Requires high school diploma or equivalent, CPR/NCI certifications, driving eligibility for transporting students, and ability to work holidays and one weekend per month in residential homes. Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, plus reliability and confidentiality, are essential.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Kansas drivers’ license and good driving record preferred (required in order to drive students in Heartspring vehicles)
- Must complete orientation and training
- 18 hours in-service training per year
- Maintain NCI certification (annual)
- Maintain CPR certification
- Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written)
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments
- Honesty, ethics, confidentiality
- Ability to assess situations and make proper behavioral judgments
- Experience with standard computer systems and handheld devices
- Ability to stay calm under pressure
- Ability to document and report health concerns and incidents
- Must adhere to Safe and Positive Approaches (NCI) training
- Provide safe, clean, nurturing environment
- Escort students to off-campus events
- Provide verbal praise and support
- Assist with meals and safety in emergencies
- Complete other duties as assigned
