Job Summary
Provide therapeutic recreation services to elders in a facility setting. Assess elder leisure interests and meaning to develop balanced programs to improve quality of life; coach/mentor team members to engage elders in meaningful activities; participate in care planning and interdisciplinary rounds; complete MDS and care plan documentation; educate elders, families and staff on leisure opportunities; collaborate with disciplines (spiritual care, volunteers, hospice, therapies) to design monthly recreation programs and coordinate community outings; manage department spending paperwork; maintain confidentiality and adapt to diverse cultural needs. Requires high school diploma or GED with 2 years of relevant experience; Bachelor’s degree preferred; physical ability to move and assist up to 50 pounds; may involve care for individuals with dementia.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- 2 years of experience in an age-appropriate social or recreational program within the last 5 years
- 1 of which was full-time in a patient or resident activities program in a health care setting required
- Bachelor’s degree in TR or related human service field preferred
