Job Summary
Build trusting relationships with youth by coaching them in age-appropriate behaviors, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills. Provide one-on-one and group social interaction to develop recreational abilities and insight into mental illness while promoting recovery-oriented goals. Facilitate peer support groups on recovery topics, connect participants to community resources, and advocate for self-advocacy when needed. Document services legibly per AltaPointe policy, seek supervision to enhance skills, and attend required staff meetings and training. Treat all participants with dignity, respect confidentiality, and maintain a gentle, calm demeanor.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or its equivalent
- Valid, verifiable driver's license
- Good driving record
- Reliable transportation
- Verifiable vehicle liability insurance
- Ability to work flexible hours including evening and weekend hours
- Ability to attend DMH-approved Therapeutic Mentor training for certification
- Knowledge of psychiatric disorders in the youth/young adult population
- Knowledge of cultural diversity
- Knowledge of the Alabama Department of Mental Health and Medicaid standards
- Knowledge of behavior management, crisis intervention, as well as non-violent crisis intervention practices
- Knowledge of a recovery-oriented treatment approach
- Ability to communicate effectively with multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to connect to youth/young adults and share skills and knowledge with others
